The Sport Hawke’s Bay Student Sport Council is a group of young leaders formed from Secondary Schools across Hawke’s Bay to connect and gather student voice in relation to Secondary School sport.  These students are selected as leaders amongst their peers, and their contribution is valuable to the success of sport within their school.

Purpose: To establish an opportunity for youth leaders to network while sharing and exploring new ideas and initiatives. This will support increased participation and ensure quality and accessible opportunities are made available through using youth voice. 

Sport Hawke's Bay facilitate two workshops each year with the Student Council; the first event ‘Inspiring Leaders, Transforming Tomorrow’ is a motivational event designed to build resilience, teamwork and vision in our future leaders. Students hear first-hand insights from local athletes and sports leaders. It connects students with inspiring voices from our Hawke’s Bay community of individuals in the sport sector to ignite their passion and potential.

The second event is designed to further support the connection between youth in Hawke’s Bay and the development of leadership skills amongst our regional youth sport leaders. Students receive further leadership development opportunities delivered by third party providers. This creates an opportunity for students to learn and creatively explore ideas and opportunities to increase participation and encourage students in their school and wider community setting to be more physically active, through a collective voice on wider sports-related activities and events.

This group is highly regarded by Sport Hawke’s Bay and provides direction and voice for Secondary School sport.
