SPORT AND RECREATION AWARDS ​​​​​​​


​​​​​​​The aim of the Central Hawke’s Bay Sport and Recreation Awards is to recognise the outstanding achievements of CHB athletes, teams, clubs, coaches and officials.

The awards also recognises innovation, excellence and contribution to sport and recreation in Central Hawke’s Bay from grassroots through to elite level.

CENTRAL HAWKE'S BAY SPORTS AWARDS NOMINATIONS 2025

Nominations must be completed online

Nominations Open: June 2, 2025 - Nominations Close: 11.59pm Monday 21 July, 2025
Qualifying Period:  1 March 2024 to 31 May 2025

Nominations can be updated or adjusted at any stage during the nomination period

Performance by nominees will only be considered when it has occurred during the qualifying period.

All applications must be accompanied by a media quality photograph of at least 10cm by 10cm of the nominee or team.

Nominations will be accepted from all National and Regional Sports organisations, clubs, schools, media and the general public

Sports Award Categories

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Open to a volunteer who has displayed outstanding commitment and dedication within the qualifying period to the active recreation or sport sector. The Volunteer of the Year award is designed to recognise the valuable contribution that volunteers make to their community.

COMMUNITY COACH OF THE YEAR

A coach who creates positive team culture, provides a great experience and encourages fair play and commitment to Balance is Better/Good Sports principles.

COMMUNITY INITATIVE OF THE YEAR​​​​​​​

Awarded to an individual, group, school, sports organisation or club who has identified, celebrated and encouraged a collaborative project which has positively impacted children, young people and their whānau.

SERVICE TO SPORT

Awarded to volunteers who have contributed to the operation of a club or sporting organisation for 10 years or more. 3 people will be acknowledged this year.

EMERGING TALENT

Open to any individual JUNIOR athlete, official or coach who has excelled in one or more sports within the qualifying period, who has NOT achieved success at elite international level or have represented New Zealand and has the greatest future potential to be a Central Hawke's Bay Sports Awards category winner in the future.   
The Nominee MUST be under the age of 18 as at FEBRUARY 29TH (end of achievement period). 
This award can only be won once by an individual.

CLUB OF THE YEAR

Outstanding performance by a club, eliminating franchise organisations, in terms of success on and off “the field” within the qualifying period.

SENIOR SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR

Open to any individual who has excelled in one or more sports within the qualifying period.

Nominees must be at 21 years of age or over at the time of their performances.

JUNIOR SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR

Open to any individual who has excelled in one or more sports within the qualifying period.

Nominees must  be under 20 years of age or under at the time of their performance.

SENIOR TEAM OF THE YEAR

​​​​​​​Outstanding performance by a team of two or more persons within the qualifying period.

Nominees must be at 21yrs of age or over at the time of their performance.

SENIOR SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR

Open to any individual who has excelled in one or more sports within the qualifying period.

Nominees must be over 21 years of age or older at the time of their performances.

SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR

The Supreme Award is selected from the winners of the Junior Sportsperson, Senior Sportsperson, Junior Team and Senior Team awards.

Central Hawke's Bay Sports Awards 2024


A night to celebrate for play, active recreation and sport in Central Hawke’s Bay

​​​​​​​For the second consecutive year, Lachie Kirk was announced as the Central Hawke’s Bay Sportsperson of the Year at the celebration event on Saturday evening.

The 2024 Central Hawke’s Bay Sport and Recreation Awards were held at the CHB Municipal Theatre in front of 165 people on Saturday evening. Following a difficult year for the region post Cyclone Gabrielle, the awards were an opportunity for the sport and recreation sector to come together and celebrate success from across the District over the past 12 months.
