GRADUATE PROGRAMME - Sport New ZealandB

Are you passionate about the health and wellbeing of our communities and want to be part of the journey to improve the lives of all New Zealanders? Would you like to contribute to helping communities build better social-connections and develop their knowledge and skills through play, active recreation and sport? Nau mai haere mai ki Sport NZ Ihi Aotearoa.

The Sport New Zealand Ihi Aotearoa Graduate Programme is a paid, two-year fixed-term opportunity, based at the Sport NZ Wellington office for the first year, before moving into two sector work-experience placements in year two. The successful graduates begin their full-time programme with Sport NZ in mid to late January, the year following their recruitment.

Our Graduate Programme aims to support the leadership development of talented individuals who aspire to work within the play, active recreation and sport sector. This unique opportunity enables graduates to develop professionally and personally, gain valuable work experience, contribute to a diverse range of projects, and build professional relationships while working alongside leaders in the sector.

EDUCATION CENTRE MANAGER - GUTHRIE SMITH TUTIRA (Arboretum & Education Centre)  (Full time)

This is a great role for a leader passionate about outdoor education.

Guthrie Smith Tutira is a Hawke’s Bay treasure, offering a multi-faceted outdoor learning environment for all ages. They provide a variety of environmental educational programmes and adventure-based learning activities, including high ropes, canoeing, raft building, orienteering and many more. As Education Centre Manager, your role will be at the heart of the centre's offering.

Residing on-site and looking over the beautiful Lake Tutira, you will sit across the day-to-day operations of the Education Centre and its related outdoor activities. You will be hands-on, leading and demonstrating the outdoor education programmes, and sharing knowledge of the history of the land which makes this place so special. Assuring confidence and compliance around high ropes and harnesses will be right in your comfort zone. You will enjoy fostering a fun and engaging learning space to create a memorable outdoor experience for all participants. You will be well supported by an engaged and passionate General Manager who has been on board for over 20 years.

You will quickly become the first point of contact for any schools or corporate groups wanting to take part, and your creativity and ideas will be encouraged to identify new opportunities to further develop the education centre and programmes on offer. Guthrie Smith Tutira are proud to be an OutdoorsMark safety audit certified operator, with Health and Safety being at the forefront of what they do. And you will help to ensure the Education Centre is operating in alignment with these standards.

This is a great opportunity to have a hugely positive impact across our local communities. To be successful here, you will need to have relevant qualifications in outdoor education or teaching. You may be a recent graduate, ready to embark on your career in outdoor education, or have a few years of instructing under your belt and looking for that step up into a managerial role. Either way, you must have a genuine passion for working with people, and in particular children. You will bring with you your excellent communication, organisational and time management skills to ensure each programme runs smoothly. There will be plenty of training and support for you here to get you up to speed.

SHUTTLE TIME COORDINATOR - BADMINTON HAWKE'S BAY  (Part time)

Badminton Hawke’s Bay is one of 24 Associations affiliated to Badminton New Zealand and a member of Badminton Central Region. We are committed to the development of badminton within the Hawke’s Bay region, with a primary focus on junior programmes to grow a love of the game in our participants.

The Shuttle Time Coordinator is responsible for the organisation and delivery of the award-winning Badminton World Federation’s Shuttle Time programme to juniors both in and out of school. This part-time role will include working closely with schools and venues around the region, the Badminton Hawke’s Bay Committee, and staff at Badminton Manawatu.

We are seeking a driven individual who can organise their own workload and maintain clear communication to all stakeholders. Ideally, this person will have a good knowledge of delivering fun interactive coaching sessions. This role requires a flexible working pattern as workload will vary throughout the year.

SPORT HAWKE'S BAY - CYCLE SKILLS INSTRUCTORS (2–6 hour sessions as and when required)

Sport Hawke’s Bay exists to enhance the health and wellbeing of Hawke’s Bay by influencing, enabling and supporting our communities to be more physically active.

We are looking for CASUAL Cycling Instructors to join our Active Communities team.

Do you have a passion for cycling? Want to engage with children and share your knowledge? Are you a confident, flexible, fun, and energetic person? If this sounds like you, then we have the perfect job for you.

KEY GOAL/MISSION:

  • To deliver quality cycle skills instruction using the Bike Ready Programme.
  • ​​​​​​​To deliver scooter safety skills to schools

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To deliver cycle/scooter skills sessions and bike-ready programmes.
  • To have the flexibility to deliver the programmes at different venues within the Napier/Hastings Environments, including on school grounds and at parks/cycleways.
  • Undertake specific outcomes, evaluations or reports as requested.

SPORT HAWKE'S BAY - GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR (up to 5 hours per week)

Sport Hawke’s Bay exists to enhance the health and wellbeing of Hawke’s Bay by influencing, enabling and supporting our communities to be more physically active.


A casual instructing position is available within our Active Communities team.


Our Recreation Instructors provide high-quality, low-impact group exercise programmes.  One of our specialised areas includes programmes for adults and kaumātua over the age of 50 to improve strength, balance and flexibility, along with Tai Chi at a variety of venues in Napier and Hastings.  An instructor is required for up to 5 hours per week to extend the range and scope of programmes on offer.


If you consider yourself reliable, energetic and fun-loving with a passion for working with older adults, we have an exciting opportunity for you.


Group exercise instruction experience/qualifications are desirable but not essential as training can be supplied.


The key responsibilities for this position are:


  • To prepare and deliver group exercise programmes specifically tailored for older adults and other targeted community physical activity programmes, including people with disabilities.
  • Have flexibility to deliver programmes in Napier and Hastings.
  • Be available to relieve at venues when requested.
  • Attend training opportunities as determined by Sport Hawke’s Bay.
