Kiwi Seniors

KiwiSeniors is a programme for those over 50 years of age, encouraging gentle exercising in a non-competitive and non-threatening environment. Programme activities include Low Impact Aerobics, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Resistance Exercises and Circuits.

It brings people together for exercise and companionship. Check out the listings below to see when classes are held in your area.

Exercise on Air

"Exercise on Air" is a 30 minute exercise programme that is broadcasted from Radio Kidnappers (1431AM) on Wednesday's from 1.00pm to 1.30pm.  Anyone can listen in, and join in with the exercises that are delivered by Sport Hawke's Bay staff member, Eana Young (a qualified Fitness Professional). 

Exercises used on "Exercise on Air" combine the use of upper and lower body movements to assist with strength, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, coordination and incorporates loads of fun!  Exercises are seated, therefore people of all ages and abilities can join in.

Tai Chi for Seniors

Tai Chi is now known as one of the most effective exercises for physical and mental well-being. Sun Style, one of the four widely recognized Tai Chi styles, is especially suitable and effective for arthritis.

As part of the Sport Hawke’s Bay/ACC Joint Fall Prevention Programme there are 20 week courses available. This programme includes a basic assessment process to determine changes to balance, flexibility and strength.

For maximum benefit from the course, participants are encouraged to attend twice weekly

Please note that there is a set criteria in place for ACC funded Tai Chi, however Sport Hawke’s Bay provides low-cost classes to those who do not meet the criteria

· Fridays 1.30pm - 2.15pm

Te Taiwhenua O Heretaunga, Heretaunga Park, Community Centre and Conference Centre, 821 Orchard Road, Hastings

· Monday 10.30am – 11.15am
