SPORTS LEAGUES
Along with the Wairoa Community Centre staff, various sports leagues are held throughout the year. If you are keen to play but do not have the numbers to make up a team, please get in touch with the Wairoa Community Centre staff as they can help. Requests for certain game times will be considered, but no guarantees!

CLUB ASSIST
This programme has been developed to help improve the capability of sports clubs. It is based on Sport and Recreation New Zealand’s SportsMark programme that is delivered in schools by the Regional Sports Trust throughout the country.
The programme provides clubs with a diagnostic assessment tool so they can assess their club structure, organisation and performance. Current best practice is outlines to allow clubs to measure themselves against and to identify strengths and weaknesses within their organisations.
Benefits of being a Clubmark Club
- The club will improve their capability therefore making the club a more viable, vibrant and health organisation.
- The club will develop a strong working relationships with Sport Hawkes Bay by being able to work together to implement any recommendations, changes or improvements. Through this collaborative process the club will have access to best practice templates and up to date information specific to clubs.
- A framed certificate along with a letter of reference will be received upon achieving the ClubMark Award. The letter of reference can be used when making applications for grants, as it will acknowledge the processes and outcomes that the club has gone through to achieve the ClubMark Award.
- Sport Hawke’s Bay will write to five major funding agencies in recognition and support of the club’s achievement in attaining the ClubMark Award.
- Media recognition of the clubs achievement in attaining the ClubMark Award through the community newspapers.

Active Movement Programme:Active Movement is a Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) initiative promoting quality physical movement experiences for children under five. The Active Movement Programme looks to up skill and support teachers, parents and caregivers by raising the awareness of the importance of quality movement experiences in the early years. |

Healthy Heart AwardThe Healthy Heart Award is an innovative programme run by the National Heart Foundation, that supports Early Childhood educators in promoting healthy food and Active Movement to under fives, and their families. Sport Hawke's Bay supports Early Childhood centres that are registered with Healthy Heart Award, to encourage and assist them to meet the award criteria. |
Plunket Infant & Pre School Water Awareness Learn to Swim Programme We run this programme each term in association with Plunket. Qualified instructors will help parents/caregivers in the water to make their child more confident in and around the water environment, learning as they play. All equipment is supplied, please make sure 3 and under children are wearing an aqua nappy so come along and have fun in the pool. Gold coin would be much appreciated to assist Plunket in holding more sessions in Wairoa.The next Plunket Infant & Pre School Water Awareness Learn to Swim Programme starts Monday 23rd July, at either 10.30am - 11.00am or 11.00am to 11.30am. The nine-week programme finishes on Monday 10th September. All equipment provided. Gold coin donation. VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION FUNCTION
A function was held to say a BIG THANKS! to all the volunteers who put time and effort into sport in the Wairoa district on Tuesday 5th June at the Wairoa Community CEntre. The guest speaker was Precious McKenzie, who was inspiring to all who attended.
