Napier Aquahawks swim club member was selected in the NZ squad to compete at the Sydney Youth Olympics in January. The 16 year old backstroke specialist will be one of eighteen swimmers to compete at the event.

Johnny Kirkpatrick- shearing
Teaming up with Paul Avery from South Taranaki Kirkpatrick won the machine shearing teams event a the World Shearing and Woolhandling championships in Bjerkreim, Norway. In the individual machine final Kirkpatrick the top qualifier came second behind Avery.

Ken MacKenzie-Road cycling
MacKenzie won gold in the masters 3 time trial event at the four day National Club Road cycling championships held in Wanganui.

Patrick O’Shaughnessy and Blair Turvey-Surf lifesaving
Westshore surf lifesavers Patrick O’Shaughnessy and Blair Turvey won gold in the under 14 boys 100m tube rescue at the NZ swim championships held in Wellington.

Hawke’s Bay Magpie Rugby Team- Rugby Union
The Peter Russell coached, Hawke’s Bay Magpies finished third in the Air NZ Cup. They beat Waikato in the quarter final to set up a semi final with Canterbury. The Hawke’s Bay boys were well in the game but eventually lost 31-21.

Peter Russell coached, Hawke’s Bay Magpies finished third in the Air NZ Cup. They eventually lost to Canterbury in the semi final in a tightly fought game. Russell was also named assistant coach to the Highlanders super 14 franchise for 2009.

A Hastings Boys High School student, Johnson was named the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Referee Associations premiere referee of the year.

Jan Prieditis
In addition to his role as the Development Officer for Squash Eastern, he spends his nights and weekends coaching, runs physical activity sessions for students of the Polyventure class at the EIT who have intellectual and physical disabilities, and works for the MASH Trust, who provide a wide range of support services for people with psychiatric, intellectual or physical disability or illness. Jan does not stop at promoting the inclusive ethos, but ‘walks the talk’ every day. On top of his 60-hour week, Jan chose to volunteer, and also recruited other volunteers to work at the Goalball Nationals held at NBHS at labour weekend. The organisers were very appreciative of his time-keeping and scoring skills.
