Weekly sessions held during the summer daylight savings hours. Focus is on Cycling, with a ‘Women’s Only Grade’ introduced to the Tuesday weekly CHB Cycle Club rides. This is for all fitness levels and ages and introduces women to learning how to cycle and to gain confidence in riding the roads. Please see the attached Course description for the 2007-08 season.
Weekly Tuesday classes, 9.30-10.30 at the Memorial Hall Waipukurau. Cost is $5 membership and $2 classes thereafter. Fantastic place to meet like minded other Kiwi Seniors and to socialise after with a cup of tea and biscuits. This group also has bi-monthly social trips to various exciting locations around Hawke’s Bay. Very experienced Aerobics Instructor, Sherry Majors keeps this group enthused and active.
Leaves Johnson’s Electrical car park in Waipukurau at 9am. Mostly walk for an hour and walks commence every week regardless of weather.
Cat Kynoch is the dedicated Central Hawke’s Bay Support Trainer for GRx clients. GRx can be prescribed by all Medical Health Practitioners. Cat assists clients with motivation for physical activity and also dietary and health advice. It is a great way to alleviate health problems and this service is on offer right here in CHB.
With over 65 Sport and Recreational clubs on the Central Hawke’s Bay database, competing in local and regional competitions, your local Regional Sports Trust office is the first contact with these organisations. Sport Hawke’s Bay offers officials, administrator and coach development opportunities throughout the year. Club Assist is a self assessment tool that is now offered to all clubs to enhance their sustainability and value within their community.
With 17 schools spread across the Central Hawke’s Bay community, they provide a strong sporting background to all sports and recreational programmes. All Schools are involved in the annual Inter-School Swimming, Athletics, Softball, Gymnastics, and Cross Country Sports Days, which sees great competition amongst the schools. A new initiative is the CHB Primary Schools Academy offering placements for every schools top athlete, to participate in a 10 week programme held throughout the year, to up skill and educate our young athletes competing at a higher level. Former All Black, Norm Hewitt offers 2 scholarships each year at the completion of the Academy programme. Active Schools is the SPARC programme designed for Schools.
Programmes are available to Workplace to increase physical activity initiatives within their workforce.
Small rural communities working together for a sustainable future for their communities sports clubs and members. This also works in conjunction with the Club Assist programme.
With a variety of kindergartens, day care centers, kohanga reo’s, homecare services, the Regional Sports Trust offers professional development for it’s educators and carers. Active Movement is a SPARC driven programme to held get 0-5 year olds active.
Sherry Majors holds weekly classes with the local Paul Hunter Centre, which is a disability resource community centre. This session is open to anyone that would like to participate.
Weekly radio slots on the Central FM Radio Sports Show, Saturdays 7-9am, to update you no local, regional and national sporting activities.
The Waipukurau based office of Sport Hawke’s Bay, is housed in the Westpac Indoor Heated Pool complex. There is an extensive library, with books, videos and coaching manuals to access for free. There is also an equipment shed, that sports equipment may be accessed for use, also free of charge.
Is all about getting more people more active for 30 minutes a Day. The Push Play theme is tagged to all physical and recreational activities.
In Central Hawke’s Bay there are 2 major functions hosted by Sport Hawke’s Bay. The annual Sports Person of the Year Awards Dinner plays host to 350 people at a formal function. Covering 11 categories, nominations from all community clubs, groups and organisations are called for during the months of September and October with the Awards ceremony held in November. The 2nd function is a ‘Volunteer Thanks’ function held midway through the year. This is an informal evening function to recognize all volunteers involved in local sport.
