Fred Koenders – Chairman

Fred became Chairman of Sport Hawke’s Bay in October 2005, having been Deputy Chair since September 2004. The former General Manager – Support Services at the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, Fred is currently the Dean of Arts and Social Sciences at EIT Hawke’s Bay. He brings a strong systems approach to the Board and has a varied sporting background. He is currently the President of the Hawke’s Bay Multi Sport Club (and a keen triathlete) and a previous Chairman of Greendale Swimming Club.

David Pearson – Deputy Chair

David was appointed to the Sport Hawke’s Bay Board in February 2004, becoming Deputy Chair in November 2005.  A strong sporting background, notably in tennis and cricket, and a former Hawke’s Bay cricket rep, David is an accountant by profession and a partner at Palairet Pearson, and as such, plays an important role on the Finance and Audit Sub-committee.  David brings strong governance skills to the Board Table and is also the Chairman of EIT Hawke’s Bay.

Richard Hill – Full Trustee

Solicitor and Partner at McKay Hill & Co, Richard is a Founding Trustee and the Trust’s Honorary Solicitor. Richard has a wide range of sporting connections, notably rugby and cricket, and also sits on several sport related committees and governance groups.

Sean Bevin – Full Trustee

Sean is well known in the Hawke’s Bay region, with strong connections into sport, particularly cricket where he was a former Hawke’s Bay representative.  Sean is the Hawke’s Bay Regional Economist, having previously provided this service for the Napier City Council.   With active teenage children, notably in badminton, Sean provides a good insight to the Board on youth activities and initiatives as well as an excellent overview of the Hawke’s Bay environment.

Lois Dawson-Mikaere – Full Trustee

A Public Health Nurse based in Flaxmere, Lois brings a grassroots health sector perspective to the Sport Hawke’s Bay Board and takes a keen interest in physical activity through Push Play, particularly with young people.  Lois sees the operation of the Fruit in Schools and Health Promoting Schools initiative at first-hand and provides valuable feedback as to the value of active recreation for young people at grassroots level particularly in areas of higher deprivation.  She has a sporting background in hockey and has served as a Trustee of Flaxmere School.

Sandy Titter – Full Trustee

A Chartered Accountant with Gardiner Reaney, Sandy plays a key role as a member of our Finance and Audit Sub-committee which supports the CEO and Finance Manager.  Sandy also plays an important audit role by overseeing the monthly financial work papers.  She has been an active participant in several sports, particularly squash and netball and has also competed in 1/2 marathons.

Damon Harvey – Full Trustee

Damon Harvey joined the Board of Sport Hawke’s Bay in February 2004 as a Representative Trustee and became a Full Trustee in October 2005.  Damon brings a strong background in marketing and media relations to the Board having previously been a journalist and a member of the marketing team for the Auckland Blues.  Damon is currently a Director of a marketing and media company based in Hastings.

Roger Aranui – Full Trustee

Appointed to the Board in April 2006, Roger has a strong background in sports administration and leadership, having served as Chairperson of several local boards including Maraenui School Board of Trustees.  He is currently employed as Regional Director for Te Puni Kokiri and serves as the Chairman of a knowledge management group within TPK.  Roger brings a wide network of sporting and community links, both Maori and non-Maori including softball, rugby league and rugby.  Roger plays an important role in ensuring Sport Hawke’s Bay develops a strategic relationship with the Maori community.

Glenys Hannan – Full Trustee

Glenys was appointed to the Board as a Full Trustee in February 2004 and brings a considerable background in sports administration to the table, having been involved in netball for many years in all facets of the game, including President of Hawke’s Bay Netball Union, a former Chairperson of Napier Netball Umpires and, more recently, the establishment and governance of Eastern Netball Region.  Glenys is also involved in the establishment of the Flyers Netball franchise and is currently the Regional Manager for Credit Union Baywide.

Michele Hayes – Representative Trustee

Michele brings an aquatic recreation background to the Sport Hawke’s Bay Board having previously been a programme coordinator and facility manager for SwimGym Systems.  Now Managing Director of Aqua Management, which manages the AW Parson Stadium in Waipukurau and the Dannevirke Swimming Pool, Michelle has solid industry knowledge and a practical understanding of the sport and active recreation sector.

Dr Caroline McElnay – Representative Trustee

Appointed to the Sport Hawke’s Bay Board as Representative Trustee in April 2006, Caroline brings a strategic, population based viewpoint of the health sector to the Sport Hawke’s Bay Board.  A member of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine, Caroline has been Hawke’s Bay’s Medical Officer of Health and specialist in Public Health Medicine since 1995, having previously worked as a General Practitioner and Public Health Consultant.  As a mother of 3 young children, Caroline brings various dimensions to the Sport Hawke’s Bay Board.
